Biography —
Alex Freeman, an Ethan Allen, Bob Lowry, and Buford Watson, Jr. Memorial scholar, is a 2023 graduate of Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and political science. Alex was engaged in several activities while at Morningside. He was president of the Morningside Civic Union, a fellow at the Colonel Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement, and more. Alex grew up in Sergeant Bluff Iowa, a small town near Sioux City. His career in public service began at the age of 14 when he became a staff member of the Sergeant Bluff Parks and Recreation Department. He held several positions in that department for 8 years. Most recently, Alex served as the recreation supervisor. In that position, he was responsible for all external communications, operations of six different youth sports leagues, and oversight of all aquatics including a pool and splash pad. Alex was inspired by these experiences to continue his education and municipal leadership experiences at the University of Kansas. After KU, he hopes to become a city manager.
