Biography

Lucas Peterson, a Buford M. Watson, Jr. and Ethan Allen scholar, was a Special Assistant to Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers. He led scheduling and assisted with policy and government affairs issues at the local, state, and national levels.  Prior to moving to the State Treasurer’s Office, Lucas served in Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s administration as the assistant to then-Lt Governor Lynn Rogers, starting on the transition team. During college at Kansas State University, Lucas was a finance intern on Laura Kelly’s 2018 gubernatorial election campaign. He was also the news director at The Wildcat 91.9 and served in various volunteer roles within student government and student media organizations. Lucas was originally pursing a commission into the US Air Force as a contracted ROTC cadet at K-State when he was suddenly diagnosed with stage III-a Testicular Cancer. After taking a semester off for surgery and chemotherapy, Lucas graduated from K-State in 2018 with a B.S. in political science. He looks forward to continuing his public service journey as a member of the KU MPA Fellows class of 2023 and beyond.
