Terese “Tess” Tappan

Terese “Tess” Tappan graduated from the University of Kansas in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and two minors in sociology and women, gender, and sexuality studies. Terese was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and carries an immense love for the city that shaped her. Throughout her academic career, Terese has nurtured her passion for leadership and community involvement. Terese served as the Vice President of Communication for the Kansas Beta Kappa Chapter of Delta Gamma Fraternity and relished the opportunity to advocate for her peers and serve the community. Terese also spent time volunteering with Kansas Audio-Reader, through which she developed a deeper commitment to increasing access and opportunity for under-served communities and marginalized voices. These experiences increased Terese’s passion for local leadership and giving back to her community through public service. Through the MPA City and County Management Fellowship, Terese hopes to expand her abilities to serve the people who make local municipalities the vibrant communities that they are.
