Biography

Gillian Straub, a Mary M. Litchfield and the Clara Schneider Perkins scholar, graduated with honors from Creighton University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in international relations. Gillian worked for The Creightonian as news and opinion editor, helping transition the school newspaper to digital. She also tutored adults working towards their high school diplomas, which she continues after relocating to Kansas City. Gillian spent two summers as an intern for the Department of State and focused on human rights, first in Washington D.C., reporting on South and Central Asia, and second in Pristina, Kosovo. In Kosovo, Gillian met with local leaders, human rights activists, and international partners on truth and reconciliation, domestic violence and violence against the Serbian Orthodox Church. Upon returning, she worked for Glass Lewis, a proxy services provider, and created the company’s first climate policy, a tool aimed at public companies with emissions risk to evaluate how they oversee and manage climate risk. Gillian looks forward to using her experience in media, international relations and finance to enact change at the local level and see the impact of her work.
