Biography

Joshua Navarro is a Richard Chesney, John & Carol Nalbandian, Darwin W. Daicoff, and Self Memorial Fellowship scholar. He graduated from the University of Kansas in May 2024 with bachelor's degrees in political science and public administration, and a certificate in gender, policy, and law. His interest in public service began in his hometown of Hutchinson, Kansas, inspired by his grandparents' example of true citizenship.

Joshua’s first local government experience was as an election worker for Reno County, Kansas during the 2020 primary election. At KU, he served as a student senator representing on-campus students and as the representative for his Scholarship Hall. He was involved in the KU Multicultural Scholars Program and the McNair Scholars Program, where he completed two research projects: one on the effects of redlining on economic wellbeing in Kansas City, Kansas, and another as an intern with the city of North Kansas City, Missouri, to create a succession plan for the city. He also worked as a student assistant at the KU School of Public Affairs and Administration.

In his final year, he helped to establish the KU Public Affairs Student Association (PASA) and was nominated to serve on the Provost’s Budget and Tuition Student Advisory Committee.
